Although the practice of yoga has been around for over 3000 years (check out Indus River Valley 1700BCE for more on that), it has evolved greatly within the western culture. YauvanaYoga is the practice of holding physical poses (some are predesigned while others we create together) while controlling the flow of breath and witnessing the thoughts and sensations that arise.
While there are certainly proper times to challenge the body's abilities to move, stretch and balance, yoga is healthy and possible for all ages. You might even discover a few poses that look like a toddler having fun. You will also find a few poses that are regularly done on the spring floor of a gymnast competition! Although there may not be an appropriate age to start, each person must decide for him/herself what poses will best support his/her practice.
