Yauvana is a mindfulness program for our younger generation where the vehicle of yoga is used to cultivate an inner-knowing of confidence and connection. We offer weekly classes, workshops and retreats that nourish and enliven the mind, body, and spirit. Through a variety of physical practices and reflective conversation, participants discover the joy of life's journey, recognizing the "human" likeness in one another as they share in struggles, triumphs, and support for one another.
When the rest of the world challenges young people to be more, try harder, look a certain way, and draw personal comparisons, it becomes imperative to provide them that cherished time to slow down and remember that who they are in this moment is always enough. YauvanaYoga provides a safe space for participants to listen inwardly, empowering them to weed out negative self talk and nurture the thoughts only worth believing in.
In order to truly feel calm, having the tools to turn inwards is essential. Everything we feel and do relates to our well-being and directly affects our actions and emotions. Between screen images, constant instructions for learning, and the process of developing greater responsibilities, youth often source outlets that allow for their minds to disengage from thinking, but miss the vital step of really connecting within. Becoming Calm requires choosing the mindset we want to live within. We are here to facilitate students' discovery of their thinking muscles that create that mindset.
Even when life gets us down, knowing that we are able to take a step back and see a bigger picture creates the chance to experience gratitude and joy. YauvanaYoga starts with something as basic as a yoga pose to allow for the mind to pull back from its wanderings and focus on what matters, all of which lends itself to strengthening our "storytelling muscles" as well as our physical bodies. When we feel our stillness and the vitality within, it's hard not to experience the wonders of Life!
